Key Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Active license or permit from the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT) (see https://albit.alabama.gov/credentials/)
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Prior experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting is preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
  • Accurately translate spoken language to ASL and vice versa to ensure clear communication
  • Collaborate with educators and school staff to support individual student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all legal and ethical standards
