Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is sought to provide essential communication support within a K-12 school setting on a contract basis for the current school year. This onsite opportunity is located in Decatur, Alabama, requiring an accredited AL SLI License to ensure high-quality interpretation services for students across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and school staff
  • Interpret classroom discussions, instructions, and school events in real-time, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to foster an inclusive learning environment
  • Assist in developing instructional materials adapted for sign language users when needed

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possession of a valid Alabama Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) License
  • Proven experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably K-12
  • Strong understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and deaf culture
  • Ability to manage a full-time caseload with professionalism and adaptability
