Job Description

Step into a meaningful, full-time contract opportunity for a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in an engaging school environment from August 2026 through June 2027. In this vital role, you will facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and school staff, ensuring access to classroom instruction and a positive educational experience.

What you'll bring:

  • Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, plus a passing written test
  • Alternatively, qualifications equivalent as recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
  • Ability to provide accurate, clear interpretation in a classroom or school setting
  • Professionalism, flexibility, and a strong sense of responsibility

What youll do:

  • Interpret spoken and signed communication during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure effective communication strategies are in place
  • Adapt interpreting methods to suit student needs in various educational contexts
  • Foster student engagement and self-advocacy by serving as a communication bridge
  • Uphold the ethical standards and confidentiality of the interpreting profession
