Qualifications:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) license
  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings
  • Strong understanding of various communication modes and ability to adapt to student needs
  • Excellent collaboration skills with teachers and other educational staff
  • Commitment to professional development and improving interpreting skills

Location: Bethlehem, PA

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and transliterate lectures, discussions, and other educational activities for students, utilizing the most beneficial communication modes
  • Provide tutoring to expand students' language and vocabulary, both spoken and signed
  • Collaborate closely with the Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) and participate in educational team meetings
  • Offer staff orientations on hearing loss and interpreter usage to enhance the school environment
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to refine interpreting skills and meet state requirements
  • Assist students in understanding their rights and needs regarding interpreting services
