Job Description

In a dynamic educational environment, a skilled sign language interpreter is sought to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This role focuses on facilitating effective communication and enhancing the learning experience for an 11th-grade student.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Alabama Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) qualifications
  • EIPA score or equivalent credential
  • Preferred interpreting licensure
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Location:

  • Bessemer, AL

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between the deaf or hard of hearing student and educational staff
  • Collaborate with teachers to interpret instructional materials and classroom discussions
  • Provide support in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Attend meetings and participate in professional development as required
  • Adapt interpretation techniques to meet the individual needs of the student
