Bring your expertise and passion for sign language interpreting to an educational setting where your skills will make a significant impact on students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Work onsite in a full-time contract opportunity, serving schools near Athens, AL. Youll provide essential communication access and facilitate a supportive, inclusive learning environment in collaboration with educators and other support professionals.
Key Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Valid license or permit issued by the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, especially within a school setting, is highly valued
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative abilities
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and effective sign language interpreting (ASL and transliteration services) for students across various classroom and school activities
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
- Adapt interpreting style and methods to meet diverse student needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including special education staff
- Support student engagement and participation, advocating for accessibility and inclusivity
- Maintain regular attendance and reliably fulfill assigned weekly hours (37.5 hours/week, onsite)
