Special Education Paraeducator / Instructional Aide
Location: San Francisco, CA
Job Type: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available
Schedule: Monday Friday (School Hours | No Nights or Weekends)
About the Role
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraeducators and Instructional Aides to support students across San Francisco. Whether you are an experienced behavior specialist, an LVN/nursing professional, or looking to start your career in a school setting, we have a position that fits your background and schedule.
Available Schedules & Hours
We match you to school sites based on your preference and availability:
Pre-K: 4.5 hours/day (22.5 hours/week)
Elementary School: 5.5 hours/day (27.5 hours/week)
Middle & High School: 6.5 hours/day (32.5 hours/week)
Full-Day Bus Aides: 8.0 hours/day (40 hours/week)
Note: Bus Aides meet at a central location, ride with students to and from school, and support them at their assigned school site during the day.
Basic Requirements (All Candidates)
To qualify for any classroom placement, you must have a High School Diploma (or equivalent) AND meet one of the following:
An Associate Degree or higher OR 48 completed college units
A passing score on the CBEST exam OR the Instructional Aide Exam
Available Placement Tracks
During your interview, we will match you to one of these four generalized tracks based on your unique skill set:
1. General & Behavior Support
Ideal for: Candidates with backgrounds in childcare, camp counseling, or general education support.
Specialized Roles: Includes positions focusing on social-emotional/behavioral interventions (requires 1 year of experience working with behavioral needs) or community-based instruction (requires the ability to stand/walk for up to 5 hours with students).
2. Medical & Specialized Health Support
Ideal for: Caregivers, medical assistants, or candidates comfortable with hands-on health care.
Requirements: Must complete district-funded CPR/First Aid training and annual training modules for specific physical health needs (such as emergency anti-seizure medication, blood glucose testing, nebulizer use, or G-tube feeding).
3. Deaf / Hard of Hearing & Vision Support
Ideal for: Specialized communication assistants.
Requirements: For Hearing support, fluency in sign language systems and knowledge of Deaf culture are required (assessed during the interview). For Vision support, coursework in Braille or a background with visually impaired students is preferred.
4. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Support
Ideal for: Licensed nursing professionals looking for a rewarding school-hours schedule.
Requirements: A valid State of California Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) license and active CPR/First Aid certification.
