Job Description

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist position is available for a K-12 school in Summerville, SC. This contract role is focused on providing specialized support to visually impaired students, helping them develop mobility and orientation skills necessary for independence and success in school and daily life.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and implement orientation and mobility training tailored to individual student needs
  • Collaborate with special education teams to integrate mobility strategies into educational plans
  • Provide direct instruction to students on safe and effective travel techniques within school and community settings
  • Monitor and document student progress throughout the contract period
  • Offer guidance and training to school staff and families on mobility assistance and resources

Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
  • Experience working in K-12 educational environments preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and educators
  • Ability to develop individualized programs focused on student independence and safety
