Job Description

A part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist is needed to support K-12 students in San Marcos, TX. This contract position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise in helping visually impaired students gain the skills necessary for safe and independent travel. The assignment is aligned with the school calendar year and focuses on promoting student mobility and confidence in a school setting.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Orientation and Mobility (O&M) License
  • Experience working with K-12 students in an educational environment
  • Strong assessment and instructional skills tailored to individual student needs
  • Ability to develop and implement specialized travel and orientation plans

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop mobility plans that meet student needs
  • Instruct students on the use of canes and other assistive tools for safe navigation
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt interventions accordingly
  • Promote independence by teaching spatial awareness and environmental concepts
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the educational team
