Job Description

Step into an essential role as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, making a meaningful impact in the upcoming 20252026 school year. In this contract opportunity, youll devote 37.5 hours per week guiding students with visual impairments to achieve greater independence and confidence in navigating their environments. The position focuses on providing specialized instruction in mobility techniques, orientation strategies, and utilizing assistive technologieshelping learners thrive in school, home, and community surroundings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college with emphasis in Orientation and Mobility (Masters degree preferred)
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), or eligibility for certification with willingness to obtain within established timeframe
  • Prior experience working with visually impaired students preferred
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly desirable

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individualized assessments and design customized instruction for students with varying needs
  • Teach safe and effective orientation and mobility techniques, including the use of assistive technologies
  • Collaborate with school staff, families, and community partners to support students progress
  • Prepare clear documentation, maintain progress reports, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Empower students to confidently access educational, social, and community environments
