Job Description

A rewarding opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist skilled in supporting K-12 students with visual impairments. Location: Morganton, NC
Setting: K-12 school environment
Duration: Current School Year (CSY) contract

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and developing students orientation and mobility skills tailored to their individual needs
  • Creating and implementing specialized instruction plans to promote safe and independent navigation in school and community settings
  • Collaborating with educators, families, and related service providers to support holistic student growth
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress and adjusting strategies accordingly
  • Providing guidance on assistive technology and mobility aids

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with children and adolescents with visual impairments
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to design individualized training programs and conduct assessments
