Job Description

An exciting opportunity awaits for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the upcoming 25/26 school year in the Miami, FL area. This full-time, contract position offers the chance to impact K-12 students by fostering independence and confidence in their daily navigation and mobility skills. You will play a critical role in equipping students with visual impairments to travel safely and effectively within their schools, homes, and communities.

In this rewarding role, you will:

  • Provide instruction in orientation and mobility techniques, enabling students to develop essential navigation skills.
  • Teach the use of assistive technology and mobility devices.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support each students Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Conduct ongoing functional assessments of students orientation and mobility needs.
  • Document progress and prepare detailed student reports.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to practice and generalize skills across a variety of environments.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution (emphasis in Orientation and Mobility required); Masters degree preferred.
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or eligibility for certification with commitment to attain within required timeline.
  • Experience working with students who are visually impaired strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are an asset.
