A school-based Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is sought for positions serving K-12 students in the Washington DC area, approximately 45 minutes south of DC. This contract opportunity includes one full-time (37.5 hours per week) and one part-time (7 hours per week) role with assignments varying by school needs. The caseload involves approximately 10 students receiving around 7.5 hours per week of direct services, supporting their development of safe and effective navigation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver personalized orientation and mobility instruction to children in a K-12 school setting
- Assess student needs and implement travel training strategies that promote independence and safety
- Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to support student goals
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and progress toward objectives
- Comply with all licensing and state requirements, including VA Department of Social Services checks and TB testing
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist licensure (AVCREP or equivalent) required
- Experience serving school-age children preferred; from entry level to 10+ years of service considered
- Strong knowledge of mobility aids, adaptive techniques, and independent travel training
- Ability to work on-site preferred; virtual service providers considered only for part-time role
- Excellent communication and organizational skills

This role requires immediate initiation of credentialing, including background and health screenings. Candidates will participate in prescreen interviews to determine suitability, with flexible scheduling options.
