Job Description

A K-12 school in the Washington DC area is seeking two Orientation and Mobility Specialists (OMS) to support students with visual impairments. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work closely with children, helping them develop independence and confidence as they navigate their environments safely.

Positions Available:

  • Full-Time OMS: 37.5 hours per week, onsite only
  • Part-Time OMS: 7 hours per week, primarily onsite, with virtual work considered for part-time role only

Responsibilities include assessing and instructing students in orientation and mobility skills, designing individualized strategies to enhance spatial awareness and mobility, and collaborating with educators and families to support student success. The caseload includes approximately 10 students receiving an average of 7.5 hours of service weekly.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist licensure (such as AVCREP or equivalent)
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Ability to deliver services in person, with some flexibility for part-time virtual work
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with school staff and families

Location: Fredericksburg, VA area, serving schools within the Washington DC region.

Contract Duration: Contracted for the Current School Year (CSY) through May 29, 2026.
