Job Description

A school-based opportunity is available for two Orientation and Mobility Specialists (OMS) serving K-12 students in the Washington DC area, approximately 45 minutes south of downtown. These contract positions focus on supporting students with visual impairments by providing specialized mobility instruction to enhance their independence and safety.

One full-time role (37.5 hours per week) and one part-time role (7 hours per week) are open. The part-time position replaces a virtual provider, with a strong preference for on-site candidates, though virtual arrangements will be considered for part-time. Caseloads average around 10 students, receiving approximately 7.5 hours of service weekly, with school assignments varying based on region needs.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist licensure (AVCREP or equivalent)
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments preferred
  • Ability to conduct assessments and develop individualized mobility plans
  • Flexibility to work on-site primarily; virtual work considered for part-time role
  • Compliance with Virginia Department of Social Services background check requirements and current TB test

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver orientation and mobility instruction tailored to each students needs
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to reinforce skills across environments
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation of student progress and services
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities

This position is contract-based with a start date as soon as possible through May 29, 2026. Pre-employment screening interviews will be scheduled between 9-11 AM and 2-3 PM EST, with some flexibility available.
