Job Description

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist is needed to provide specialized support for students in a K-12 school setting. This contract position is offered on a W2 basis and spans the current school year (CSY) within the Charleston, SC area. The role focuses on assisting students with visual impairments to develop essential orientation and mobility skills that foster independence and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate students' orientation and mobility needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to improve students' travel skills.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers and related service providers.
  • Provide instructional sessions and practical training in various environments.
  • Monitor progress and adjust strategies to meet student goals.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate with families and educational teams.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or credential as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is required.
  • Experience working with students from K-12 levels.
  • Strong understanding of special education practices and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
