Empower students to navigate their world with confidence as a part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a supportive school setting near Carlsbad, NM. In this contract role, youll work directly with K-12 students, providing essential skills and guidance that foster independence for those who are visually impaired.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) as a Mobility Trainer for the Blind
• Proven expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience supporting students across K-12 grade levels
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with educators, families, and other specialists
• Capacity to develop individualized instruction plans and adjust strategies to diverse student needs

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct orientation and mobility training to students throughout the school district
• Assess students needs and abilities, and create customized lesson plans to build both foundational and advanced O&M skills
• Teach safe and effective travel techniques across school, home, and community environments
• Maintain clear and thorough documentation of progress and outcomes
• Communicate regularly with school staff and families regarding student development and strategies for continued success
