Desired Qualifications

• Valid Illinois licensure or district-required approval for school-based Sign Language Interpreters
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Preferred: Prior experience interpreting in school environments
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational abilities
• Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality
• Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary educational teams

Key Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpreting services for classroom instruction, meetings, and various school activities
• Foster effective communication between students, teachers, staff members, and peers
• Support student participation across academic, social, and extracurricular contexts
• Partner with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to address individual needs
• Maintain accurate records and assist with documentation required by the school district
• Aid communication during IEP meetings and other school functions as needed
• Consistently uphold professional standards for interpreting in educational settings
