A specialized opportunity is available for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist within a school setting in Berlin, CT. This contract position is designed for professionals who are skilled in supporting students with hearing impairments through tailored educational strategies and assistive technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and other educational professionals to implement effective communication and learning accommodations.
- Utilize and train staff on the use of assistive listening devices and other specialized teaching tools.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students to enhance language, listening, and social skills.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional methods as necessary.
- Advocate for accessible learning environments and ensure compliance with relevant educational regulations.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings.
- Strong communication skills, including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), preferred.
- Knowledge of audiological equipment and assistive technology.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
