Job Description

A Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) position is available for the 20252026 school year in Minneapolis, MN, supporting students in a public school district. This contract role offers approximately 18.75 hours per week, typically from 8:30 AM to 4:10 PM on Mondays, with slight variations in the schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult and implement positive behavior interventions and supports across multiple elementary schools.
  • Collaborate closely with another BIS and Special Education Administrator to develop appropriate programming for students.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments and apply data-driven strategies to foster positive student behaviors.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, apply restrictive procedures to maintain a safe environment.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) consistent with district and state requirements.
  • Train staff on behavior management recommendations and ensure compliance with school policies.
  • Respond calmly and adaptively during crisis situations to meet students behavioral needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

This role supports four elementary schools: Ramsey Elementary, Madison Elementary, Rum River Elementary, and Jefferson Elementary.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Behavior Specialist, BCBA, or Special Education Teacher with a Tier 3 or 4 license.
  • Experience with positive behavior supports and functional behavior assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong classroom management and data analysis skills.
  • Flexibility and calmness under crisis situations.

Location: Minneapolis, MN (serving multiple schools within the district).
