Job Description

An experienced Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is needed to provide specialized physical education services within a K-12 school setting in San Jose, CA. This full-time contract position focuses on delivering tailored Adapted Physical Education (APE) programs to students with special needs, ensuring their physical growth and development are effectively supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide regularly scheduled Adapted Physical Education classes for students enrolled in special education, including those who are severely handicapped, communicatively handicapped, or physically handicapped.
  • Assess students physical and perceptual motor abilities to identify individual needs and develop customized Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress consistently, making necessary modifications to IEPs to promote continuous development.
  • Collaborate and consult with general education and special education teachers regarding regular, modified, or specially designed physical education instruction.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in team meetings focused on student progress and programming.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Adaptive Physical Education teaching license.
  • Possession of a PPS Credential for California.
  • Prior experience working with special education populations in a K-12 environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong assessment and program development skills tailored to diverse student needs.
  • Effective communication and consultation abilities within multidisciplinary teams.

Work Details:

  • Location: San Jose, CA (Onsite only)
  • Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Contract Duration: Current School Year (CSY)
  • Serving one school with a specialized caseload
