Job Qualifications

Earn a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field.
Pursue a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
Gain field experience through internships during your MSW program.
Obtain licensure, starting with the Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW) and eventually achieving the Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) designation by passing the ASWB exams.
Apply for school social worker approval from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) in addition to the LMSW license.
Complete any required background checks.
