Job Description

Are you passionate about providing inclusive education for students with hearing impairments? We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. As a school-based sign language interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.

Responsibilities:

Provide sign language interpreting services during classroom instruction, school activities, and other educational settings to ensure meaningful access to the curriculum for students with hearing impairments.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment by effectively conveying spoken language into sign language and vice versa, allowing for seamless communication between students and their hearing peers, teachers, and staff.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teams, and other professionals to ensure appropriate modifications and accommodations are in place to meet the individual needs of each student.
Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by providing valuable insights regarding communication goals and strategies.
Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge of sign language, interpreting techniques, and assistive technology to provide the best possible support to students.

Qualifications:

Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification, state certification) or equivalent qualification.
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong command of English.
Experience working with students with hearing impairments in an educational setting is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
