Job Description

Sunbelt is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Orientation Mobility Specialist (OMS) to work part-time in a school district near Dewitt, MI. The OMS will be responsible for providing orientation and mobility services to visually impaired students to enhance their independence, safety, and quality of life.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students
  • Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans for students
  • Teach students to travel safely and independently in various environments
  • Provide instruction on the use of mobility aids such as canes, guide dogs, and electronic travel devices
  • Collaborate with other professionals such as teachers, counselors, and therapists to ensure comprehensive services for visually impaired students
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, and modify plans as needed

Job Requirements:

  • MUST HAVE O&M Certification
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility
  • Experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting
  • Knowledge of best practices in orientation and mobility instruction
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload of students
