Job Description
Take on a dynamic nursing role supporting a 24-bed stepdown progressive care unit in a large, Level 1 trauma and teaching hospital. This contract opportunity is designed for nurses with a passion for patient-centered care, clinical expertise, and teamwork.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7A-7P or 7P-7A
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts out of every 12, on a 6-week cycle
- Holiday rotation: One shift each for major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- No on-call requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent stepdown/progressive care or similar experience
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required; Med-Surg national certification preferred
- Proficiency in tracheostomy care, chest tube management, IV/PIV insertion, central line care, cardiac monitoring/telemetry, wound care, and medication drips (insulin, heparin, titratable HR drips)
- Strong clinical assessment skills and prior experience in high-acuity hospital settings
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver care to cardiothoracic, vascular, cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical-surgical patients, including pre/post-op and chronic/acute illness management
- Manage pre/post-LVAD patients and those with complex co-morbidities (diabetes, CHF, hypertension)
- Coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team, including CNAs, resource nurses, RTs, hospitalists, and intensivists
- Provide thorough discharge planning and patient education, especially in renal and fluid management
- Use advanced hospital equipment and the EPIC EMR system
