Job Description

A contract opportunity is available for a registered nurse experienced in stepdown care, focusing on general medical and oncology patients. This position requires a dedicated professional comfortable with administering chemotherapy via IV, starting IVs, and proficient with medical equipment including Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps. Documentation is managed through the EPIC system, so familiarity with electronic health records is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized nursing care for gen med/oncology stepdown patients
  • Administer chemotherapy safely and accurately
  • Start and manage IV lines and infusions
  • Monitor patients using vital sign technology and IV pump equipment
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes
  • Float to other med-surg areas such as Acute Unit and Emergency Room as needed
  • Adhere to staffing ratios, typically 1:4-6 patients with support staff available when ratios increase

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan RN license
  • ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) or ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) certification required; pending ONS certifications accepted with ONC certification in hand
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in progressive care unit (PCU) or stepdown nursing
  • Ability to work night shifts: 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Must be available during the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Willingness to work every other weekend; floating required

  • Night shift, 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • Flexible scheduling with self-scheduling options for weekdays
  • Weekends assigned by manager
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request
