Job Description

Provide expert nursing care for patients in a 10-bed progressive care unit (PCU) within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital recognized as a Chest Pain and Stroke Center. This contract opportunity in Perry, GA offers the chance to work with complex Step Down ICU patients requiring critical care skills in a high-acuity environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage care for patients with respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleeds, DKA, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, overdoses, and chronic home ventilator support.
  • Perform advanced nursing skills including tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip titration based on heart rate, and invasive line monitoring (arterial, central venous, intracranial pressure).
  • Assist with bedside procedures such as chest tube and PEG tube placement.
  • Collaborate with CNA staff for vital signs, glucose checks, patient hygiene, ambulation, and hourly rounding.
  • Utilize EPIC EMR and various advanced monitoring equipment including Phillips monitors and rapid infusers.
  • Work 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A) on a 6-week rotating schedule with 5-6 weekend shifts and holiday coverage.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience as a PCU RN.
  • Current NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS certifications required; critical care certification (CCRN) preferred.
  • Ability to pass an EKG competency exam (BCR).
  • Proficient with respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological patient management.
  • Adaptable team player able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
