Job Description

A contract nursing opportunity is available in Perry, GA for an experienced Registered Nurse skilled in step-down care. This role involves providing critical care to patients transitioning from the ICU or ER, managing complex medical needs in a fast-paced unit. Candidates with experience in progressive care units (PCU) or step-down areas will be well-prepared for success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Caring for patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, stroke, DKA, and other critical conditions
  • Managing invasive lines including arterial and central venous lines, as well as monitoring intracranial pressure
  • Performing tracheostomy, chest tube, and PEG tube care and management
  • Administering and titrating drips such as insulin and heparin based on heart rate monitoring
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available around the clock
  • Utilizing electronic medical records (EPIC) and specialized equipment like Phillips monitors and Belmont Rapid Infuser

Qualifications and experience:

  • Current RN license with a minimum of 2 years PCU or step-down nursing experience
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • CCRN preferred but not required
  • Competency in EKG interpretation (BCR Basic Cardiac Rhythm) with ability to pass an EKG exam
  • Proficient in trach and chest tube care, peripheral IV starts, insulin and heparin drip management

Schedule and environment:

  • 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A), with a weekend rotation covering approximately 5-6 weekends in a 6-week cycle
  • One major holiday shift required per holiday period
  • No on-call duties
  • Support from unit secretaries, CNAs, resource nurses, and lab staff
  • Orientation includes one day combined with departmental training modules
