Job Description

A healthcare opportunity is available for a registered nurse with step-down unit expertise in Perry, GA. This contract position focuses on providing care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with advanced certifications including Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver skilled nursing care to step-down ICU patients with varied diagnoses such as respiratory and renal failure, sepsis, GI bleeding, and others.
  • Manage invasive lines and support bedside procedures including tracheostomy and chest tube care.
  • Administer and titrate medication drips and monitor vital signs and invasive pressure monitors.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapists and hospitalists who are available 24/7.
  • Work within a team culture that emphasizes coordination and patient-centered care.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years PCU or step-down nursing experience.
  • Current RN license.
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; CCRN preferred but not mandatory.
  • Competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and trach, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips.

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • 12-hour shifts, day or night (7a-7p or 7p-7a) on a 6-week rotation.
  • Approximately 5-6 weekend shifts in a 12-shift cycle, with holiday work expectations.
  • No on-call duties.

Additional Information:
Orientation includes 1 day onsite and 2 days of departmental education. The unit operates with a supportive team and access to advanced technological resources, including EPIC EMR and specialized monitoring equipment. Free parking is available on campus.
