Provide advanced nursing care for critically ill patients in a 10-bed Stepdown PCU unit, specializing in complex medical conditions and acute care management. This contract role is based in Milledgeville, GA, at a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma Designation and comprehensive specialty centers including Chest Pain and Stroke.

Core Responsibilities:
- Care for Stepdown ICU patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, DKA, and ARDS.
- Manage and monitor invasive lines including arterial and central venous lines.
- Administer and titrate drips (insulin, heparin) and manage ventilated patients with stable settings.
- Perform trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and assist with bedside procedures such as chest tube and PEG tube placement.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including CNA support, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7.
- Utilize EMR systems (EPIC) and specialized equipment such as Alaris IV pumps and Phillip monitors.
- Participate in weekend rotations and work 12-hour shifts with holiday coverage as scheduled.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Registered Nurse with 2+ years of experience in a PCU or Stepdown setting.
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; CCRN preferred but not required.
- Competency in EKG interpretation with Basic Cardiac Rhythm understanding; will complete a skills exam.
- Proficient in invasive monitoring and critical care nursing duties.
- Comfortable working in a busy unit environment with a strong team culture.
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts (7 AM7 PM or 7 PM7 AM)
- Weekend rotation: approximately 5-6 weekends per 6-week cycle
- No on-call responsibilities
- Holiday shifts required as per schedule
