Exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting. This contract position is based in Milledgeville, GA, offering a dynamic work environment in a Level 1 Trauma Designated teaching hospital known for its advanced cardiac, stroke, and critical care services.
Responsibilities include managing Step Down ICU patients with diagnoses such as respiratory and renal failure, sepsis, stroke, pneumonia, and more. You will monitor and manage invasive lines, assist with bedside procedures like chest tube and trach care, and titrate drips including insulin and heparin. Patient ratios average 1 RN to 3-4 patients with support from CNAs to assist with vital signs, glucose checks, patient hygiene, and mobility.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2 years experience in PCU/Stepdown nursing
- Valid RN license in good standing
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification required
- CCRN certification preferred but not required
- Competency in EKG interpretation (BCR) and willingness to complete related exams
- Proficient in trach care, chest tube management, PIV insertion, and drip titration
- Familiarity with monitoring invasive lines and handling critical care procedures
Schedule & Work Environment:
- 12-hour shifts, 7 AM7 PM or 7 PM7 AM
- Weekend rotation: approximately 56 weekends per 12-shift cycle
- Holiday work expected for one major holiday shift per season
- No on-call duties required
- Supportive team culture in a busy PCU setting
- Orientation includes unit-specific training and educational modules
Facility technology includes EPIC EMR, Phillips monitoring systems, Alaris IV pumps, and specialized equipment like cooling blankets and PCA pain management devices. Parking options include free surface parking and paid deck availability.
