Provide expert stepdown nursing care focused on complex patients transitioning from ICU and emergency settings. This 12-hour shift role in Milledgeville, GA, offers a dynamic environment working with a dedicated team in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with advanced cardiac and stroke care capabilities. The contract assignment includes weekend rotations and holiday shifts, with a supportive culture emphasizing teamwork.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of PCU or stepdown nursing experience
• Current RN license with NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Competence in EKG interpretation; must pass Basic Cardiac Rhythm competency exam
• Skilled in managing invasive lines (arterial, central venous), tracheostomy care, chest tube management, insulin and heparin drips
• Experience with PIV starts and managing complex patient drips titrated to heart rate
• Comfortable assisting with bedside procedures such as chest tubes, tracheostomy, and PEG tube placements

Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality nursing care for patients with diagnoses including respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, renal failure, and more
• Manage a patient ratio of approximately 1:3-4, supported by 1-2 CNAs per shift
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
• Utilize EMR (EPIC) and specialized monitoring equipment to support patient care
• Participate in weekend rotations (5-6 shifts every 6 weeks) and major holiday coverage
• Maintain professional and efficient communication with unit staff and resource nurses
