Job Description

Join a specialized progressive care nursing role focused on cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients in a high-acuity, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital setting. This contract position is based in Macon, GA, offering an opportunity to apply advanced med-surg nursing skills in a collaborative environment with a diverse patient population.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for a 24-bed step-down unit, primarily caring for pre- and post-operative cardiothoracic/vascular surgical patients and a secondary population including cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical-surgical cases.
  • Manage complex patient needs including LVAD care, trach and chest tube management, IV insertions, insulin and heparin drips, and cardiac telemetry monitoring.
  • Perform clinical assessments, coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams, and lead discharge planning with a focus on renal and fluid management education.
  • Utilize EPIC EMR for documentation and care coordination.
  • Collaborate with unit-based CNA staff, charge nurses, resource nurses, and specialty teams including hospitalists, intensivists, and respiratory therapists.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience required; Medical-Surgical certification preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and Basic Cardiac Rhythm certifications mandatory.
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tubes, IV therapy, telemetry, wound care, and complex medication drips.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work in fast-paced trauma hospital settings.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour shifts: 7 AM7 PM or 7 PM7 AM
  • Six-week rotation with 5-6 weekend shifts
  • One major holiday shift expected per cycle
  • No on-call responsibilities
