This role offers an opportunity to provide specialized nursing care in a progressive step-down unit within a Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital recognized for excellence in stroke and chest pain care. The work environment is dynamic and team-oriented, supporting patients transitioning from intensive care with complex medical needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage care for step-down ICU patients including those with respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, renal failure, DKA, and other critical conditions.
• Perform tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and assist with bedside procedures such as PEG tube placement.
• Monitor and manage invasive lines including arterial, central venous and intracranial pressure monitors.
• Administer and titrate infusions including insulin and heparin drips.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including RN charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists.
• Utilize EPIC EMR system and hospital-specific technology to document and coordinate care.
• Participate in weekend shifts and holiday coverage on a rotating schedule.
• Maintain competencies including BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certification; CCRN preferred but not required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a progressive care or step-down ICU setting.
• Current RN license.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Skills with invasive line management, trach/chest tube care, PIV starts, and medication drips.
• Ability to pass cardiac rhythm competency exam.
• Comfortable handling complex patient populations including chronic ventilator patients.

Schedule:

• 12-hour shifts, either 7 AM7 PM or 7 PM7 AM.
• 5-6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
• Holiday work required on designated days.
