A professional nursing role is available in Macon, GA, offering the opportunity to provide critical stepdown care in a supportive, fast-paced environment. This contract position requires at least two years of recent progressive care unit (PCU) nursing experience and offers an engaging role caring for patients transitioning from ICU and emergency settings.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver skilled nursing care to stepdown ICU patients with diagnoses including respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, stroke, and others.
- Manage complex clinical tasks such as tracheostomy and chest tube care, PIV starts, and titration of drips including insulin and heparin.
- Monitor invasive lines (arterial, central venous), pulse oximetry, and intracranial pressure devices.
- Assist with bedside procedures including chest tube and PEG tube placements.
- Collaborate closely with nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists providing 24/7 support.
- Use EPIC electronic medical records and various clinical technology to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse licensure required.
- Minimum 2 years PCU or stepdown nursing experience.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; CCRN preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm competency with successful EKG exam required.
- Skills in ventilator management, invasive line care, and titrating infusions.
- Ability to assist and manage bedside procedures confidently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts (7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM)
- Weekend rotation: approximately 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week cycle.
- Holiday work includes one shift on major holidays.
- No on-call duties.
