A specialized nursing opportunity is available for experienced Registered Nurses skilled in step-down patient care. This contract role focuses on providing high-quality nursing within a progressive step-down unit setting, supporting patients transitioning out of intensive care or emergency services.
Location:
Positioned in a vibrant city of central Georgia, the healthcare facility is a teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma Designation, and dedicated centers for chest pain and stroke. Qualifications / Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2 years experience as a PCU or step-down RN
- Current nursing license and certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; CCRN preferred
- Proficiency with tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips
- Ability to manage arterial lines, central venous lines, and invasive monitoring devices
- Competence in EKG interpretation (successful completion of EKG competency exam required)
- Experience assisting with procedures such as chest tube and PEG tube placements
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Provide nursing care for step-down ICU patients including respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, and other critical diagnoses
- Manage complex drips and invasive lines with attentive monitoring
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including CNAs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
- Utilize EPIC EMR and operate advanced monitoring and medication delivery systems
- Participate in scheduled weekend rotations and holiday coverage according to a 6-week cycle
- Adhere to unit protocols including infection control and patient safety standards
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A)
- Approximately 5-6 weekends per 12 shifts
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday shifts assigned with manager approval
