An opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse experienced in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or Surgical Short Stay/Observation to support a busy surgical observation unit in Charleston, SC. This 23-hour observation unit operates within a surgery center PACU located inside a large clinic, providing care primarily during night shifts. The position offers a concentrated schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week, Monday through Thursday, with no weekend or holiday requirements, allowing for a balanced work-life routine.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries (including total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder, and elbow cases), interventional radiology procedures, and gastrointestinal scopes.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia teams, and operating room nurses to ensure patient safety and effective care.
- Monitor patient status post-surgery in a fast-paced surgical short stay unit.
- Adhere to facility protocols and maintain patient documentation with accuracy.
- Provide support within a 2-RN + 1 Patient Care Technician staffing model, adapting as needed for staffing changes or low census periods.
- Float within similar observation units as required, supporting surgical and clinical teams across the facility.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active SC or Multi-State/Compact RN license.
- At least 2 years of nursing experience; first-timers to PACU or surgical short stay considered.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Ability to work night shifts, 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM, three nights a week.
- Flexibility to float to other observation units if needed.
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
