This contract nursing opportunity in West Bend, WI, offers a dynamic role in a medical-surgical unit focusing on acute care for older adults as well as observation patients. A great fit for registered nurses with 1-3 years of experience, this position provides exposure to a variety of conditions including dementia, stroke, diabetes, kidney/liver/heart failure, respiratory issues, and cardiac dysrhythmias in a supportive hospital environment.
Responsibilities include managing patient care with an average daytime ratio of 1:5 and nighttime ratio of 1:6-7, administering treatments such as wound care, insulin drips, and managing medical devices including chest tubes, nasogastric and PEG tubes. Nurses will utilize EPIC for charting and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, occupational and physical therapists, and speech therapists to provide comprehensive care. Safety is prioritized with patient security systems in place for those at risk of elopement.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license with 1-3 years medical-surgical experience
- Competence in managing older adult patient populations, particularly in medical-surgical settings
- Skills in wound care, insulin drip management, reading and interpreting cardiac strips preferred
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Ability to work within a team-oriented environment with strong communication skills
Schedule:
- Weekend rotations approximately every other weekend, with a strong weekend program
- No on-call duties required
