A rewarding opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical Oncology in Winston-Salem, NC. This contract role offers the chance to work within a respected academic medical center known for advanced cancer care and trauma services. You will support patients with hematology/oncology and gynecologic and surgical oncology needs, contributing significantly to their treatment and recovery journey.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert nursing care to oncology patients, including venipuncture, IV insertion, and central line management
- Manage symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and mucositis, and monitor lab values
- Administer blood transfusions and implement infection prevention protocols
- Collaborate with CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and the respiratory therapy team to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Utilize electronic medical records (Epic), IV pumps (Alaris), and other specialized equipment such as Philips monitors and Omnicello medication dispensing systems
- Adapt to float assignments within the cancer center or other med-surg units as needed
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 1 year oncology experience; first-time travelers are welcome
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; OCN preferred
- Proficient in central line care, wound and skin care, and transfusion protocols
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
Schedule/Hours:
- Shift options: 6:30 AM7:00 PM (days) or 6:30 PM7:00 AM (nights)
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Travelers will work approximately 75% of holidays during assignment
- Orientation includes 2 days of departmental onboarding
