Job Description

Deliver high-impact care as a Med/Surg Telemetry RN in a dynamic acute care environment. This contract role supports a resource team spanning various regional medical centers, requiring adaptability and strong clinical expertise in general Med/Tele nursing.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Weekend shifts: every other weekend required
  • No on-call duty
  • Holiday rotations: 75% of major holidays worked
  • Up to 6 days off can be approved (excluding holidays; must fulfill contracted hours)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications mandatory (resource team requirement)
  • Proficient in stroke management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, tracheostomy care, and chest tube management
  • Competence with vascular access (PIV), NGT and drain/tube management (including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley), PCA pump operation
  • Medication administration skills including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
  • Epic documentation and experience with Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Flexibility to float across multiple facilities within a designated regional group (as required by staffing needs).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive care to a diverse Med/Surg Telemetry patient population (e.g. end-stage renal, fluid overload, sickle cell, DM, altered mental status, complex wounds, pancreatitis, behavioral health)
  • Effectively manage patient loads (RN ratios typically 1:5-6; may increase during critical surge)
  • Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomists, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Monitor and assess patients using advanced telemetry and documentation technology
  • Respond promptly to changing clinical situations and float based on patient census and regional requirements
