Job Description

Provide expert neuro-surgical care on a specialized 37-bed unit supporting patients with neurological and neurosurgical needs. This 13-week contract opportunity offers a focused environment for RNs with strong neuro expertise to utilize their skills during 12-hour night shifts. Work alongside a dedicated team in a hospital known for excellent leadership and a well-developed staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Care for neuro and neuro-surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op cranis, and cerebral angiogram cases.
  • Perform neuro assessments including NIHSS and dysphagia screens.
  • Manage strict intake/output, straight catheters, Foley catheters, and indwelling drains.
  • Administer and titrate heparin drips, blood products, and manage stable drips like Protonix and Lasix.
  • Utilize strong critical thinking skills for patient evaluation and care planning.
  • Chart using EPIC electronic health records following a required checkoff.
  • Float within skill set to a nearby campus with advance notice.
  • Work three weekends every six weeks and alternate holidays.
  • Potentially precept students or new hires in this teaching hospital setting.

Qualifications:

  • Active Compact RN license.
  • AHA BLS and NIHSS certification.
  • Minimum of two years strong neuro nursing experience, including one travel assignment.
  • Trauma Level II experience.
  • Recent EPIC charting experience.
  • Must be resilient, adaptable, and social with team collaboration skills.
  • Navy blue scrubs are required; no competing agency logos allowed.

Location: Positioned in Evansville, IN, this facility offers a vibrant urban community with access to cultural sites, parks, and local dining. The hospitals proximity to neighboring campuses within an 11-mile radius supports flexible floating assignments and team collaboration.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Guaranteed minimum 36 hours/week; 48 hours available by request
  • OT applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
  • No block scheduling
