An opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse with Med Surg and Older Adult care expertise in Brookfield, WI. This contract role offers a chance to work in a well-equipped medical-surgical unit specializing in patients primarily over 65 years old with complex conditions including dementia, stroke, diabetes, and cardiac dysrhythmias. The unit skillfully balances acute care and observation, providing dynamic experiences with patient admissions typically under 24 hours on one half, and more long-term care on the other.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- 1-3 years of clinical experience preferred
- Proficiency in Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) skillset with older adult patient care
- Competence in wound care, insulin drips, tachycardia management, chest tubes, NG and PEG tubes
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips preferred
- Current certifications including BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Responsibilities:
- Deliver compassionate, high-quality nursing care to a diverse patient population
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes, including managing complex chronic illnesses
- Utilize electronic health record systems (EPIC) and hospital telemetry effectively
- Collaborate with charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and rehabilitation staff in daily care coordination
- Adhere to safety standards related to patient elopement prevention and infection control protocols
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Weekend rotations approximately every other weekend
- No on-call or holiday assignments expected
- Day shifts maintain a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio; night shifts range 1:6-7
- Support includes CNAs, receptionists, and 24/7 respiratory and hospitalist support
- Professional attire required, with free employee parking available
