Job Description
This position is for an experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Neurosurgical and Neurological Intensive Care. You will provide expert care for critically ill patients in a state-of-the-art Neuro Critical Care unit with a 10-bed capacity. Patients include those with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, post-operative craniotomy, seizures, encephalopathy, and neurologic tumors.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive assessments and care for hemodynamically unstable and mechanically ventilated patients
- Perform thorough neurological assessments and manage specialized equipment such as Alaris Pumps, Arctic Sun, Prismax, EV 1000, and Neuroptics Pupillometer
- Utilize Epic EMR system to document patient care accurately
- Float to other inpatient areas as needed during low census periods
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team maintaining a positive, flexible, and empathetic approach
- Adhere to unit policies including dress code (navy scrubs, no hoodies)
Qualifications:
- Current RN licensure with at least 2 years Neuro ICU experience
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Strong skills in neurological assessments, managing EVD, ICP waveform, CRRT preferred
- Capable of managing patient ratios from 1:1 to 1:3
- Familiarity with Epic EMR system is preferred
Schedule:
- Night shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- 36 hours per week with every other weekend commitment
Location: The Neuro Critical Care unit is located in Indianapolis, Indiana, at a prominent medical campus featuring advanced technology and patient-centered care. The unit offers a professional, supportive environment emphasizing specialty neurological nursing.
This is a contract position with competitive hours and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully in a specialized nursing role. Orientation includes unit-specific training and Epic system instruction.
