Job Description
Provide expert care in a specialized Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care Unit serving as a critical part of a highly regarded medical center. This contract role offers a unique opportunity to work in a Gold Beacon Award-winning 29-bed PCICU that is nationally recognized for outstanding patient outcomes. Nurses in this unit manage complex cases involving congenital heart disease, cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices, heart transplants, and advanced life support including ECMO and CRRT.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care within a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio based on acuity
- Manage care for pediatric cardiac patients, including post-operative surgical and medical cardiac cases
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, dietitians, and pediatric pharmacists
- Utilize EPIC electronic medical records for accurate documentation
- Adhere to unit protocols and maintain the highest standards of pediatric cardiac nursing care
- Work night shifts of 3 x 12 hours from 7 PM to 7:30 AM
- Fulfill a weekend shift requirement of 4 shifts in a 4-week schedule and participate in a holiday rotation
- Participate in float assignments within the unit to meet staffing needs
Qualifications:
- Current SC or compact multi-state RN license
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric cardiac ICU experience; VAD experience highly preferred but not required
- PALS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association required; ACLS preferred
- Ability to manage complex cardiac patients safely in a high-acuity environment
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as scheduled
