Job Description

A Neurophysiology EEG Technician position is available on a part-time, contract basis, requiring two 10-hour night shifts per week with weekend work at a medical center in Long Beach, CA. This role involves monitoring patient safety and seizure data within adult and pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMU), utilizing advanced EEG equipment such as Nihon Kohden and Natus systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform EEG hookups and long-term monitoring using Nihon Kohden and Natus equipment.
  • Monitor patient data rigorously, detect seizures, and promptly notify nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with monitoring companies for multi-patient surveillance and coordinate care during STAT situations or staff breaks.
  • Document accurate and detailed patient study information; mark and clip EEG data for physician review.
  • Communicate efficiently with on-call physicians, reading fellows, and supervisors regarding patient status and clinical parameters.
  • Float between pediatric and adult EMUs as needed, responding to STAT EEG monitoring requests mainly from ICU or NICU.
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues, identify and resolve artifacts by adjusting electrodes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certified Registered EEG Technologist (REEGT) and current CPR certification.
  • Proven skills in EEG hookup and data acquisition, including software troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret basic EEG data and follow seizure monitoring protocols.
  • Clear communication skills and adherence to clinical procedures.
  • Phase 2 EEG experience is preferred but not required.

Shift Information:

  • Night shifts, 2 per week, 10 hours each (7:00 PM 5:00 AM).
