Job Title: American Sign Language (ASL) Paraeducator - Redlands, CA

Location: Redlands, CA

Position Type: Full-time, On-site

Description: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Paraeducator to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year in Redlands, CA. As an ASL Paraeducator, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have equal access to educational opportunities and fostering their academic and social growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, assisting them in understanding classroom instruction and materials.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers using American Sign Language (ASL) and other appropriate communication strategies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students.
  • Adapt instructional materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • Assist students with accessing assistive technology devices and resources as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic and social development of all students.
  • Support students during transitions between classes, activities, and locations within the school environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards in all interactions with students, staff, and families.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Previous experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the educational success of students with hearing impairments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the changing needs of students and classrooms.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or training in ASL or special education is a plus.
